June, 2001 Nathan Winograd took over as director of a kill shelter in Tompkins County New York. His first day as director was June 11th. From that day on, Tompkins did not kill a healthy or treatable homeless pet.

The premise of this day is to ask every single shelter statewide to dedicate all their resources to adoption for "Just One Day". So we celebrate this day by trying to empty shelters.

Since its beginning, Just One Day has grown each year, with the help of grassroots animal lovers who invite their animal shelters to try something new for Just One Day. And, each year lives are saved. And, each year, some shelters learn new things they can do to save more lives all year long. Each year, there is much to celebrate on the weekend near June 11, and many celebrations taking place all over. As we kick off preparations for Just One Day 2019, we want to make this the biggest bunch of parties to-date, so we are working to help make that happen.

No Kill Colorado is sponsoring this event in Pueblo on June 8, 2019
